Friday, April 18 @ 7PM:The "First Fridays" event, sponsored by the Richardson County Arts and Humanities Council, will be pushed back two weeks this month, and will be Friday, April 18th. The Council will present a film in the Stalder Gallery at the Falls City Library and Arts Center, titled "The Plow That Broke the Plains." The film is presented as part of this summer's Chautauqua festival, which will be held in Falls city June 25th through the 29th. The film is a narrated, black-and-white documentary about the Dust Bowl of the 1930's. It was filmed in 1936, and was directed by Pare Lorentz. The film shows the stark reality of 1930's agriculture through the desert-like conditions of the "dust bowl." Following the film, Paul Weinert will lead a discussion about its importance in our nation's history, particularly the history of the plains. Snacks will be served prior to the showing of the film, which is free and open to the public.
