CHILDREN'S INTERNET PROTECTION ACT (CIPA)

In response to the CIPA, approved by the United States Supreme Court July 2003, filters are on all public internet stations. Adults aged 17 and above may request that the filters be removed and as staffing permits, the request will be granted. The adult patron will inform the staff at the end of their computer usage. Filters cannot protect children from all adult content online and may in fact block useful, educational material.

The library staff monitors the computer lab, but realize parents or caregivers make the best supervisor.

25th ANNUAL SHELDON STATEWIDE EXHIBITION

April 10th thru May 7th in the Stalder Gallery

Gallery Talk: Friday April 27th, 2012 @ 7 PM (Doors open @ 6 PM)
Speaker: Sarah Feit, Assistant Curator of Education
At the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery

The 25th annual Sheldon Statewide exhibition, Commemorations is organized around three themes—holidays, historical events, and public figures. The project explores commemoration as both a unifying and contentious force. Created to narrate and interpret a culture’s history, commemorative objects often highlight cultural values and traditions. Yet they can also raise questions: How do we decide what should be commemorated? Does the meaning of commemorative objects change over time? The exhibition comprises paintings, prints, and photographs.

The Sheldon Statewide program is a division of the Sheldon Museum of Art outreach program and the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. Its mission is to serve Nebraska communities throughout the state by sharing the museum’s outstanding collection of American Art. Since its inception in 1987, the program has reached over 275,000 people in 24 Nebraska communities.

Sponsored by the Richardson County Arts and Humanities Council
